Bowling…

Let the record show that today, February 20, 2005, was Tara’s first time bowling. And she loved it!

I would place the ball right at the edge of the lane for her, and she’d give it a little push, which I would quickly push harder so it would reach the pins. It was the cutest thing — she would squat down and watch it go, and if she knocked one over, she’d turn around in a flash and put both arms in the air and yell “I DID IT!!!!!!” I *so* wish I’d brought a camera with me. :-)

Meanwhile, I bowled a 156, which amazed me since it’s been 5-10 years since I’ve bowled, and I was never very good to begin with. But in a moment of true “Dad Studness”, as I entered the 10th frame, I went back and whispered in Sean’s ear — “Watch this — three strikes in a row.” And then I went out and did it! Not quite the same as Babe Ruth’s called home run, but as close as I’ll ever get…..

And here we are, 6 hours later, and my right arm is SORE.

Deja vu…

Today I discovered an absolutely fascinating article about Princeton’s “Global Consciousness Project”, and how a little, black box supposedly sensed the 9/11 and Asian tsunami tragedies before they happened.

Yes, it sounds “far out”, and it is. Only a passing mention is given to the other side of the story — the “skeptics” as they say in this story.

But this line toward the end got me thinking:

“They might help provide a solid scientific grounding for such strange phenomena as ‘deja vu’, intuition and a host of other curiosities that we have all experienced from time to time.”

Deja vu. Yeah. I get that. Not a lot, but once or twice a month probably, which I assume is about normal. Deja vu. The feeling that you’ve already experienced something. Sometimes my deja vu is SO VIVID that I know I experienced it already.

Deja vu.

And I can’t help but think: How do we, as a society, explain the concept of deja vu? How is it possible? Why do I not hear more about studies into the concept of deja vu? When we experience deja vu … what’s happening inside the brain?

Not sure about the black box, but I’m fascinated by deja vu at this moment….

Mommy’s little laundry helper…

Tara has been trying to help Cari with laundry for some time now, but when you’re 2/3 years old and still knee-high to a grasshopper, there’s not a whole lot you can do.

She was trying to help tonight. Told Cari, “Mommy, let me fold this.” It was one of our bath towels — standard size. In other words, about twice her size. Cari didn’t pay her any attention, nor did Sean or I. Until about 2 minutes later when she returns the towel to Cari … FOLDED PERFECTLY. We asked her to do it again, and she did. Each corner lined up perfectly on top of the other. No loose corners or sides. A thing of beauty.

We’re still in shock…..
