Flickr Pix in the Wild

Been a while, but recently found a few of my Flickr pix in use on the Internetz. One of my best night shots is on a blog called the Silicon Florist:

And then a couple others:

  • My totally awesome vanilla-ice-cream-with-caramel-and-pink-and-purple-sprinkles photo was used on a Consumerist.com “Top Posts” post. So there. Take that all you who didn’t think that bowl of ice cream looked amazing. Touché! Matt FTW!
  • And lastly, one of my many American flag photos found a nice home on The Reasons I Think America Is A Great Country, a post from a blog called My Super-Charged Life.

All very cool, n’est-ce pas?

Sold Another Photo! Thanks, Flickr

It’s been a while since I’ve found anyone using my photos in blog posts and elsewhere, but this more than makes up for it. I just sold usage of this photo:

Rural mailbox

This one has been licensed (for a small sum of money) to a web development company in Canada who wants it for web-use only. By no means am I getting rich off these photo license agreements, but it’s essentially free money for photos that I took and uploaded ages ago. Can’t beat that.

Vacation Photos Galore

One of the great things about Web 2.0 is that it’s now kinda cool to sit down and share vacation photos with friends — not like back in the old days when you’d sit in the living room and go through slide-by-slide while Grandma or somebody tries to explain every little detail in the photo. Save me from that torture!

Now, you can cruise through pix and see what you want, leave comments on the photos you want to, mark some as favorites, etc. Or you could ignore them altogether and make me sad. :(

I think this might be my favorite shot from the Philly/NYC trip earlier this month:

Cradle of Liberty

That’s a somewhat artsy-fartsy shot of Independence Hall. Turned out well, and a little messing with the exposure makes it more interesting (to me). If you’re curious to see more, the full set of 39 photos is on Flickr now.

You can see my son at Yankee Stadium, and some good action shots from the game we saw. Or maybe the room where the Declaration of Independence was debated in Philly, plus the very moving Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier with its eternal flame. We also took the kids to see my grade school and the all-boys high school I attended — kinda like the school in Dead Poet’s Society, but ours wasn’t a boarding school.

Found this one on a site called iTricks:

That photo of the goose and her goslings always gets links and traffic on Mother’s Day. In fact, it was also used on a blog about information security. Cool. Here are the others I’ve found over the past couple weeks:

Terrible Tilly Looks Good in Print

Seattle Magazine coverThis is the cover of the May, 2008, edition of Seattle Magazine, which has what looks like a really cool cover feature on the great places and sights along the Washington and Oregon coast line.

Heck, the whole magazine looks nice — never saw an issue of this one before, but if I lived in Seattle, I’d be tempted to subscribe. So, why do I have a copy here at home, and why am I showing it here on the blog?

Because I mentioned a month ago that I sold another photo, and it’s in this issue. w00t!

See image below. It looks good, n’est-ce pas?

I’ve said it before: I love seeing people use my Flickr photos in their blog posts. The latest examples include Geoff Livingston celebrating the two-year anniversary of his blog by using this geese-on-the-Columbia-River photo:

Some more from recent weeks:

  • A blogger named Ann used a photo of the local middle school track on the what to do, poopsy-woo? blog.
  • Charles Spurgeon used one of my favorite photos — Cannon Beach, Oregon — on his Daily Spurgeon blog.
  • And a couple weeks before that, the same Charles used my photo of gorgeous clouds over the Columbia River on Daily Spurgeon.

Always cool to see people using my photos and sharing the link love back to my Flickr photostream.

Did You Know Squirrels are Friendly?

This squirrel pretty much begged for my attention while I was walking around the Northwest Forest Conference Center near Houston last week. I ended up taking maybe 15 different pics of him (her?), and this one might be the best.

The Friendly Squirrel

He just sat on the branch posing for me as I took shot after shot….what a character!

I Sold Another Photo!

There are so many reasonz to love the Internetz, and here’s one of mine: I, a complete hack photographer, can occasionally make a little bit of coin by selling photos for commercial publication. How cool is that?

This photo, of a lighthouse called “Terrible Tilly” off the Oregon coast (as seen from Ecola State Park), will apparently be used in the May issue of Seattle Magazine. (They’re doing a coastal feature from what I understand.)

April 6, 2006: Ecola State Park

I’ve previously sold photos to the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau for their 2008 Visitors’ Guide, and to a company based in western Washington for their 2008 company calendar.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not going to retire on any of this; it’s just a little extra spending money. But I’m going to be out taking photos everywhere I go regardless, so if I can get a little scratch back for my efforts, fantastic.

Thank you, Flickr. And thank you, Seattle Magazine.

I love when people use my Flickr photos on their articles and blog posts. Found three such cases in the last week or so:

I Have a Question…

Was your dessert tonight as good as mine?
