    I Sold Another Photo!

    April 3, 2008

There are so many reasonz to love the Internetz, and here’s one of mine: I, a complete hack photographer, can occasionally make a little bit of coin by selling photos for commercial publication. How cool is that?

This photo, of a lighthouse called “Terrible Tilly” off the Oregon coast (as seen from Ecola State Park), will apparently be used in the May issue of Seattle Magazine. (They’re doing a coastal feature from what I understand.)

I’ve previously sold photos to the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau for their 2008 Visitors’ Guide, and to a company based in western Washington for their 2008 company calendar.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not going to retire on any of this; it’s just a little extra spending money. But I’m going to be out taking photos everywhere I go regardless, so if I can get a little scratch back for my efforts, fantastic.

Thank you, Flickr. And thank you, Seattle Magazine.

Polar Bear at the Portland Zoo

    March 23, 2008

A couple weeks ago, I was invited to speak at SearchFest 2008, which took place at the Portland Zoo. In the offices/conference area, not in the monkey habitat. 🙂

As the event was winding up, the zoo gates closed and since we were already inside the grounds, I basically had the run of the place. As a zoo lover, I couldn’t resist. I’ll get around to posting more photos to Flickr down the road, but this polar bear shot is one of my faves so it gets uploaded first.

    Magnificent animal, isn’t it?

    Kennewick Summer Snapshot

    March 6, 2008

We’re having a summer sneak preview these days: Temperatures are in the 50s and low 60s, and the warm weather had me looking through some pix I took last summer around the Tri-Cities. This one is from the banks of the Columbia River in Kennewick, Washington.

How NOT to Market on Flickr

    February 17, 2008

Looks like someone didn’t read my How to Market on Flickr guide. Tsk-tsk.

And how stupid do you have to be to link to all your spammy profiles at every other social site? Obviously a rookie spammer.

    Flickr Spam

Update, Sunday afternoon: I submitted that profile via Flickr’s “report abuse” form, and just about 16 hours later, the account has been killed. Nice.
