Maui Days 6-7: Turtles, Dinner Plans, and Home

    May 20, 2011

    maui-6-7

Sigh. Our last full day on Maui. I’d tell you that we woke up sad, and that would be true. But the full story is that we started getting sad about leaving three days ago! Today, the end of an amazing vacation was just staring us in the face.

The highlight of today’s schedule was to be a sunset dinner cruise along the Maui coast; figured that would be the most relaxing way to wrap up our anniversary celebration. But first, we had some more snorkeling on the agenda. And breakfast. And both came highly recommended by one of Cari’s friends. Continue Reading…

Maui Day Five: Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tour, Dinner on the lanai

    May 19, 2011

    maui-5

After a (supposedly) relaxing day, we were back out bright and early this morning with some big plans: our first zipline tour!

I must confess that, as the week wore on, I actually wasn’t looking forward to ziplining. Don’t know why; just had a feeling like something might go wrong. Plus, it was the activity that I was trying to convince Cari we should cancel so we could go back out to Molokini again. Continue Reading…

Maui Day Four: Snorkeling at Kaanapali Beach, Sea Turtles & Dolphins

    May 17, 2011

    maui-4

While I was busy planning and scheming and drawing up our plan of attack for the trip to Hawaii, Cari made sure to tell me that she wanted some down time so that she could just relax on the beach and/or by the pool and maybe get a massage and other non-active stuff like that.

No problem. I thought such a day might give me a chance to go do something that she wasn’t too interested in, like exploring the northwest side of the island or maybe checking out the Maui Ocean Center and Aquarium. But, in reality, once I’d experienced snuba and snorkeling on day two of our trip, I knew how all my free time would be spent.

In the water. Looking for sea turtles. Continue Reading…

Maui Day Two: Four Winds II Molokini Snorkeling, Dinner in Lahaina

    May 13, 2011

    maui-2

(May 3, 2011) That three-hour time difference that I mentioned in the day one recap also meant that we were up crazy-early each day. Cari was usually awake between 5-6 am and I was awake by 6 or 6:15 every day. We wondered how people from the East Coast adapt to the six-hour time difference….

    Snorkeling and Snuba at Molokini

Today, waking up early was a necessity: We had a 7:00 am check-in down in Maalaea for a snorkeling cruise on the Four Winds II boat out to Molokini. Continue Reading…

Maui Day One: Sheraton Maui Resort Hotel, Whaler’s Village

    May 12, 2011

As I mentioned a couple days ago, Cari and I spent the first week of May in Hawaii, celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and wondering why we’d never been to Hawaii before! This is the first in a series of posts recapping our day-by-day adventures.

    maui-1

(May 2, 2011) Our first travel day. We woke up at 4:15 am to catch our 6:20 am flight out of Tri-Cities. The route was here to San Francisco and on to Kahului (Maui’s main airport), so just one quick stop to get there.

The flights were both great, especially the flight from SFO to Hawaii. It was on what seemed like a pretty old Boeing 777 — old, because it still had those video screens hanging from the ceiling. Haven’t seen those in quite a while. And for such a crowded flight, the boarding process was amazingly smooth and fast. Continue Reading…
