Well, it’s a tie. And that solves absolutely nothing in the long-running debate I’ve had with my buddy, Phil. I’ve made no secret in the past of my undying love and devotion for In-N-Out Burger. Phil, however, has always insisted that Five Guys is where it’s at.
I’ve never had (or even seen) a Five Guys burger, so I can’t argue one way or another. And maybe it’s a moot argument, anyway. Because, in the current issue of Consumer Reports, my favorite fast-food burger and Phil’s favorite fast-food burger tied in a survey of 28,000 readers. See the image at right for the full list. I’m kinda surprised that Carl’s Jr. ranked so well. I think they’ve gone downhill in the past few years. Wendy’s burgers are really good (fresh meat, just like In-N-Out) and they should be higher. And Jack-In-The-Box deserves better, too, if only for the amazing deliciousness that is the Ultimate Cheeseburger.
For what it’s worth, In-N-Out won a Zagat survey last summer on this very topic.
Also worth noting: Five Guys is apparently coming to Spokane sometime soon, so maybe one of these days I’ll be able to reply to Phil about whether his burger is better than mine.
