Whenever I’m thinking about going to a show that I think Sean might want to see, I’ll ask him to confirm my suspicions.
So when this show was announced — basically half of Van Halen (Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony) with legends like Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham — I had a feeling he’d want to see it.
I was wrong. š¬
But I bought two tickets, anyway, and told him he had to join me!
I don’t think he enjoyed it quite as much as I did, but they were terrific. No one is as great as Eddie Van Halen, but Satriani did the GOAT proud. Sammy still moves all over the stage, and still sounds like he’s half his current age (70-something), and Michael Anthony still sounds amazing, too.
I got to hear some of my all-time faves live for the first time, like “Right Now,” but I was a bit sad they didn’t do “Dreams” and “Mine All Mine” — two of my faves from the Van Hagar days.
And for the record, I like both versions of Van Halen equally. Both lineups had tons of great songs — they were my 2nd-favorite band for pretty much all of the ’80s.
