    Does This Look Like Me?

    October 13, 2012

I mentioned before that I’m playing Madden 13 these days on our PS3 … and one of the features in the game is this thing called EA Sports Game Face.

Game Face is this online tool that lets you upload a photo of yourself and then apply your face to your character in the “Career” mode of Madden 13. They warn you that it’s best to use a photo with a light background, but the one I uploaded has a black background. I uploaded the photo that I also used to make my half-face social media avatar (the full photo is on my SEO blog).

If you’re doing Career mode as a coach, your sideline character will look like you; if you’re doing it as a player, your player will have your face.

Or so that’s what they say. Because I uploaded that photo and THIS IS WHAT IT CAME UP WITH

Friends, family and whomever else read this blog …. I ask you:

    Does that look like me?

Twitter Integration in Madden 13 is Interesting

    September 14, 2012

twitter-bird-blue-on-whiteI’ve been playing Madden 13 occasionally since it came out a couple weeks ago, and one of the cool aspects of it has nothing to do with football. There’s a lot of social media integrated into the game — especially Twitter.

For example, in the Career mode, when a game ends you can tweet the result — or send it to Facebook. First time they’ve ever offered something like that. (Now, to me, tweeting your game score from Madden 13 is even worse than tweeting one of those stupid paper.li recaps, so I’ll never use that feature … but still, interesting addition.)

Beyond that, Twitter is very heavily featured in the News Center part of Career mode. This is where they recap all of the weekly news as you go along — what players were injured, what teams won big games, etc. And for each headline, they also show fake tweets from actual football commentators, like this:

This is when I first started my Career mode. I assigned myself to be the coach of the Seahawks, so the big news that first week was about Pete Carroll getting fired. And you can see the (fake) Twitter commentary to the side there.

And then the next story that week was about me becoming the new Seahawks coach, and that showed the same fake Twitter commentary.

Those are actual Twitter accounts, by the way — see @MattMillerEA. But it spells out that it’s a virtual account associated with Madden, not the guy’s actual account.

Anyway, pretty interesting Twitter exposure here, I thought. Not earth-shattering in terms of the game itself, but still interesting to see the integration.

This Makes Me SOOOO Proud to be a Seahawks Fan

    March 23, 2011

EA Sports is doing a March Madness-style tournament to decide who gets on the cover of Madden 12 this year. Each team has one nominee. Guys like Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Peterson, and Larry Fitzgerald are representing their teams.

    Know who’s representing the Seahawks?

    12th-man

Me! And all the 12s everywhere! Yep … the Seahawks nominee is the 12th Man, the Seahawks fans as a group.

    How awesome is that??!!??

    Check this out:

“The Seahawks have a lot of great players on the team,” said Christopher Erb, vice president of brand marketing for EA Sports. “But with the whole idea about integrating fan voting, Seattle’s just got this huge fan base – this whole 12th Man – and it’s always the loudest stadium.

“So it just made a lot of sense for us to kind of celebrate the idea of the fans, and there was no better city to do that for than Seattle.”

Hey 12s, and I know some of you are reading this, start voting now.

    Bad Seahawks News

    December 12, 2009

I was pretty sad earlier this week when I read what Jim Mora said about the Seahawks neon green jerseys: They’ve been retired.

    Gasp! Shock! Quelle horreur!

I know most of the free world hated those things, but I kinda liked them at first, and then started to love them the more I saw highlights of them, and even when I saw them in stores. I think Sean liked them, too.

Well, on the bright side, there’s this: Our Playstation 3 recently told us we needed to download an updated version of Madden 10 before we could play again, but it didn’t tell us what the update included. Lo and behold, when I went to play my next Seahawks game, look what one of the new uniform options was:

How awesome is that??!!! By the way, Mora said he’s retiring the green jerseys because “we didn’t win in them.” Well, coach … I’m undefeated in them. Take that.
