So, now that the missus and I are both running Windows XP on our Macbooks, seems wise to get some anti-virus software installed on the PC part of things.
AVG has never let me down in 9 years. It’s free, with daily updates, fast, and light on resources. Highly recommended.
There are other good free ones that I haven’t tried, so I’ll defer to those that have.
Whatever you do, keep away from anything by Symmantec. All their consumer software (yes all) is like a pile of camel dung on a warm day: buggy and crap.
I’ve personally been loving Windows Live One Care. It’s not free, but they’ll let you have it for free for 90 days, with all functionality. It’s good at what it does, plus incorporates a tune-up and auto-back-up function. I really like it. I’ve used the 90 day trial several times over by….well, let’s not get into that. Since it’s free for 90, you might as well give ‘er a try. But AVG’s also good, though I like WLOC better. AVG’s free, though. Can’t beat free.
Hey – thank you, both, for the quick replies on this. You’ve given me some things to check out. Have to admit I’ve never heard of any of those recommendations. I was expecting Norton or Symantec to be mentioned, but obviously not. 🙂 Thx again.
I’m using EsetNOD32 and I love it. Kaspersky wasn’t too bad either. I’d suggest those two. They have high marks and EsetNod32 is consistently ranked among the top.
I am using AVIRA,it has more advantage than any other antivirus, what it is? It is a high speed and accurate scan process.Believe me you’ll never find better than AVIRA

Matt,
Don’t upgrade to AVG version 8.0! They released it recently and it has a very annoying “feature”. I’m hoping to blog about it tonight.
